ALEXANDER STREET, CBC RECORDS (CANADA) PARTNER
TO EXPAND CLASSICAL MUSIC LIBRARY CONTENT

Alexandria, VA — Alexander Street Press has partnered with CBC Records, a component of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) / Societé Radio-Canada (SRC), to make all the musical tracks in their catalog available via streaming audio through Alexander Street’s Classical Music Library listening service. The agreement, announced last week, expands Classical Music Library’s collection to include the approximately 400 titles from CBC Records.

"The addition of the critically acclaimed CBC Records material to the Classical Music Library lineup will help us meet our goal of providing the broadest coverage of classical music for libraries," said Eileen Lawrence, vice president of sales and marketing for Alexander Street. "Through this agreement, we will not only be able to expand our offerings in all classical genres, but also significantly increase the number of Canadian performers and composers included in the collection."

Performers and composers include Glenn Gould, Lois Marshall, Maureen Forrester, the Canadian Brass, the Orford String Quartet, Pierrette Alarie and Leopold Simoneau, Karel Ancerl and the Toronto Symhony, Zara Nelsova, and Steven Staryk – more than 400 complete CDs in all.

"Thanks to Alexander Street Press, Canadian performers and composers’ best contributions to classical music will be available to libraries in Canada and worldwide," said Randy Barnard, General Manager at CBC Records. "We are pleased to be a part of this important product, which allows students and scholars of every level to discover classical music and its important relationship with the humanities."

Classical Music Library is an ever-growing, fully searchable classical music resource—a comprehensive database of distinguished classical recordings. It includes 40,000 tracks of licensed recordings that users can listen to over the Internet and is continually growing. The audio selections are cross-referenced to a database of supplementary reference information. Users browse, search, click, and then listen to the music through their headphones.
